Why expectation, not position
iRacing driver stats that actually tell you who to seat
Every team manager eventually faces the same question: two drivers, one seat, who goes in? Finishing positions alone will not answer it. A string of top fives against a weak field says less than a hard-fought P8 in a race full of aliens. Judge on raw results and you reward the drivers who pick easy races, not the ones who deliver when it is hard.
Paddock scores every race against expectation, in iRating — the unit iRacing already gives you. Each driver has an expected result for the field they lined up against; beating it counts, falling short of it counts, and the size of either is what shows up in their record. Over a season that turns into an honest picture of form: who over-delivers under pressure, who is quietly sliding, who has earned the next endurance seat.
And it maintains itself. Official iRacing results are fetched automatically and scored the moment they land, so the roster is always current without anyone keeping a spreadsheet alive. - Where do the driver stats come from?

- What does "scored against expectation" mean?
- A raw finishing position does not tell you much on its own. Paddock scores each race against what was expected of that driver at their iRating, so a P7 that outran the seed reads as the strong drive it was — and a win from pole against slower cars is not mistaken for a breakout.
- Are the numbers in iRating or some invented score?
- They are denominated in iRating — the unit iRacing drivers already think in. You are not asked to learn a proprietary points system to know whether a driver is over- or under-delivering.
- Can I see how a driver is trending, not just one race?
- Yes. Stats roll up week by week and class by class, so you can see who is climbing, who has gone quiet and needs seat time, and how the team is moving as a whole. Lineup calls stop being hunches and start being evidence.
